Does this guide apply to your appliance?

Match the brand, device type and complete display code. The same code can mean something different on another product family or market; a series name does not confirm every model in that series.

Likely causes

  • Defective or stuck-open water inlet valve allowing water to enter continuously
  • Excessive detergent or non-HE detergent generating heavy suds that mimic overfilling
  • Clogged drain pump filter or restricted drainage impeding water discharge
  • Defective water level pressure switch or pinched/clogged pressure sensor tube

What to try

Shut off water taps and execute a drain-only cycle

Easy
  1. Immediately turn off both hot and cold water shut-off valves behind the machine to stop incoming water.
  2. Turn the washer on using the Power button.
  3. Press the Spin Speed button repeatedly until 'No Spin' is displayed (on select models, choose 'Drain Only').
  4. Press the Start/Pause button to engage the drain pump and evacuate accumulated water from the tub.
  5. Allow the cycle to complete and power off the machine.
  6. Reopen the water supply taps; if water begins flowing into the tub while the machine is powered off, the inlet valve is mechanically stuck open and requires professional replacement.

Clean the drain pump filter and empty residual water

Easy
  1. Power off the washing machine and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  2. Open the drain pump filter access door located at the lower front of the machine.
  3. Place a shallow dish and towels on the floor beneath the access door to catch residual water.
  4. Unclip the residual drain hose, remove the cap/plug, and direct the flow into your container until drainage stops.
  5. Re-cap the residual drain hose and secure it back in its retaining clip.
  6. Turn the larger pump filter cap counterclockwise to remove it, and remove any lint, hair, or trapped foreign objects.
  7. Rinse the filter screen under running water, screw it back clockwise until tightly seated, and close the access door.

Check for oversudsing and perform an electrical reset

Easy
  1. Inspect the tub through the glass door for excessive foam or suds, which can trigger false overflow sensor readings.
  2. Unplug the washing machine from the wall outlet (or switch off the dedicated circuit breaker).
  3. Leave the appliance disconnected for the reset interval specified in its manual. Do not open or touch internal electrical components.
  4. Leave the appliance unpowered for 15 to 30 minutes to allow detergent foam to dissipate naturally.
  5. Plug the washer back into the power outlet and turn the machine on.
  6. Run a Rinse + Spin or Tub Clean cycle without detergent to flush residual soap out of the drum and lines.
  7. If the FE code reoccurs with normal water levels or the tub continues to overfill, shut off the water taps and contact an authorized LG technician to inspect the water level sensor and inlet valves.

The code returned or the check did not help?

Avoid repeated resets and do not select a replacement part from the code alone. Record the exact code, full model number, when it appeared, and the checks you tried with their results. Share these details with the manufacturer or service technician.

Disconnecting power does not establish that internal components are safe to touch. This guide does not authorize opening electrical components or bypassing safety devices.
