Does this guide apply to your appliance?
Match the brand, device type and complete display code. The same code can mean something different on another product family or market; a series name does not confirm every model in that series.

Likely causes
- Water accumulated in the bottom safety tray from an internal or external leak
- Excessive detergent causing severe foaming and spillover into the base
- Damaged, torn, or punctured door seal (bellows gasket)
- Laundry caught between the door seal and door glass causing water run-off
- Loose, clogged, or improperly seated drain fluff filter
- Blocked, encrusted, or overflowing detergent dispenser drawer
What to try
Drain Accumulated Water from the Base Tray
Moderate- Unplug the washer dryer from the electrical outlet and turn off the water supply tap.
- Place absorbent towels on the floor behind and underneath the appliance.
- Carefully tilt the machine backward slightly so there is about 10–15 cm between the floor and the front kickboard.
- Hold the appliance tilted for 30–40 seconds to allow the trapped water in the base tray to drain out onto the towels.
- Gently lower the machine back to a flat, level position.
- Reconnect the water and electricity supplies, then turn the appliance back on to verify if the code clears.
This step is marked caution. Stop if you are not qualified to continue.
Inspect Door Seal and Clear Trapped Laundry
Easy- Ensure the appliance is disconnected from power before opening the door.
- Thoroughly inspect the rubber door gasket for tears, cracks, holes, or foreign objects.
- Verify that no clothing items were caught between the door glass and the rubber gasket during washing.
- If clothing caused a leak, dry the area and ensure the gasket is clean and seated properly.
- If the door seal is torn, cracked, or punctured, do not use the machine and have it replaced by a service technician.
Clean Detergent Drawer and Check Drain Filter
Easy- Turn off and unplug the appliance.
- Remove the detergent dispenser drawer completely and rinse away accumulated detergent residue and limescale under warm water.
- Open the lower access hatch at the bottom right of the machine and place a shallow tray or cloth beneath the filter housing.
- Carefully unscrew the fluff/drain pump filter, remove any trapped lint or objects, and check the rubber sealing ring for damage.
- Reinsert the fluff filter and ensure it is tightened firmly by hand to avoid leaks.
- If over-foaming caused the error, reduce detergent usage on future loads and avoid excessive dosing.
Professional Inspection for Persistent Leaks
ProfessionalThis is a service referral, not a do-it-yourself repair procedure.
- If error EF3 returns immediately or the drain pump runs continuously after the base is emptied, isolate the machine from both power and water.
- Do not open the rear or internal panels.
- Contact AEG Customer Care or an authorised service provider to diagnose internal hose failures, water safety switch defects, or pump assembly leaks.
